Southmont FFA Has National Proficiency Finalist, National 2 Star Ranking

Drake Davis, a 2016 Southmont High Schools graduate has been named a National Proficiency Finalist with his Agricultural Mechanics, Repair and Fabrication Proficiency.  Being name a finalist puts Drake in the TOP 4 in the nation.  Drake had a very competitive area.  He competed against over 30 other state winning proficiencies from around the nation and will compete at National FFA Convention in October to become Southmont's 2nd ever National Proficiency Winner. Southmont's last National Proficiency Winner was Sam Shaver in 2015 in the area of Outdoor Recreation. Drake's proficiency is based on his antique tractor restoration business. Drake will compete against 3 other FFA members from Colorado, Minnesota, and Oklahoma.

Additionally, CaylieL. also competed in the National Proficiency Contest and received a bronze ranking, the 3rd highest ranking a member can receive.  She did a great job with her Diversified Horticulture Proficiency which was based on her employment with our FFA greenhouse and her family's garden. Caylie competed in a tough division and we are very proud of her!  Her state winning poster is also on display at the stare fair in the FFA Pavilion. Caylie is currently completing her summer internship with Dow AgroSciences in Lafyatte.

The chapter also was notified it would be receiving a National 2 Star ranking at National Convention in October. The 2 star ranking puts the chapter in the top 2.5% of all chapters in the nation.
